Strategic Directions

For 1998-2000

Introduction

RUGIT was formed in 1994 to bring together those responsible for the direction of information systems within the research led universities within the UK. The initial aim was merely to act as a vehicle for exchanging information and experiences and to have informal discussions with the representatives of bodies which have an impact on communications and information technology in the research led universities. These discussion involved bodies such as the Joint Information Systems Committee of the Funding Councils (JISC), the Advisory Committee on Networking (ACN) and the UK Education and Research Networking Association (UKERNA). The founding membership of RUGIT reflected that of the "Russell Group" of universities within the HE sector.

Mission

RUGIT's mission is "to promote, maintain and improve the facilities and services for Communications and Information Technology in the research led Universities".
